- Brings our communities together through the symbolic linking of East
and West banks via to the Trail - Links the past with the present and provides an opportunity to reflect
and heal the division and hurt in our community - Contributes to good relations in the City
- Addresses the shared safe space agenda through cultural
animation of public realm - Enhance tourism
'Searching for Columba' Project: A Collaboration with NWRC & The Churches Trust
The Project aims to bring together a varied range of young people from different backgrounds to recreate their own 'Heritage Trail' inspired by following the steps of pilgrims through the medieval city of Derry. Students from the Northwest Regional College will collaborate with participants from Churches Trust project to make a short film about the group experience of coming together and skills sharing to make a collaborative film on their experience. The project will provide opportunities for film-making production skills training and record as a documentary the experience of coming together to achieve a shared goal.
See below Churches Trust Objectives for the project.
• Documented stories, myths, facts about the St. Columb's trail and the link to key component elements of the trail.
• 15 - 20 participants will broaden their perspectives through dialogue and team building exercises.
• An educational study visit to Gartan, Co .Donegal to learn about the link between the two counties with regards to St Columba
• Team building and personal development opportunities Gartan Co. Donegal .
• Recommendations shaped by young people as to how a model of ethical tourism might emerge.
A longer term aim of this project would be to facilitate the voices of marginalised young people and the development of creative tools that could be used in an ethical tourism industry, increasing the level of ownership that local young people have over the city and its heritage.
Our aim is to advance peace building through positive change and economic development and to create a new generation of story tellers that can present a positive image of a city united by a common Christian heritage – a new way to tell the story of our city.
